We find ourselves in a challenging time… the most consequential pandemic in over 100 years…whether you know this as coronavirus, COVID-19, or SARS CoV2.
In line with MCPS policy, PTSA has cancelled our upcoming General Meeting scheduled for this coming Tuesday, March 17. The meeting change had already been in the works prior to Thursday’s statewide school closure announcement. We had a very interesting speaker lined up to discuss Financial Planning for Teens (what you wish you knew at 18, and actually followed, but then regret at 50). We will reschedule this presentation for early in the coming school year. I encourage senior families to remain connected to SHS PTSA communication channels even following graduation, so you and your students can still partake of this important information. SHS PTSA is a community organization, committed to the well-being of the larger Olney, Sandy Spring, Brookeville community, and happy to help serve our recent graduates.
The SHS PTSA board will be meeting soon to discuss how we can best fulfill the PTSA mission and priorities during this unique period. Our hope, of course, is to return to normal operations following the two week MCPS closure. We still have our big spring events ahead of us which include After Prom, Staff Appreciation Week and End of Year Lunch, 2020.21 Board Elections, etc. Please monitor PTSA social media platforms (ListServ, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) for additional coronavirus impacts to the PTSA as well as for a notice when conditions permit a resumption of regular PTSA activities.
While the PTSA will not provide medical or response recommendations. Yet knowledge is the best way to protect you and your family, and I encourage you to please inform yourself by taking advantage of the many sources of knowledge available, including the SHS website which has links to the information from MCPS. This is a time to come together as a community (One Sherwood with Achievement, Civility, Equity, Unity, & Integrity)…albeit remotely and respecting social distancing.
In closing, please be safe, take care, and remember that which is most valuable…our families and our community. Together we will get through these strange times.
On behalf of the SHS PTSA Board,
